Letter Samples – Topic: UN SDGs #4. Quality Education

Dear ___________,

How are you? So, it looks like we both like reading books! I’m

Happy that you like to read books too. I am looking forward to my summer vacation so that I could read fun books. I will check out the Swedish books you told me about. I think I never read a book from Sweden. I recently finished reading; I Am Malala. This book meant a lot to me. I am Pakistani-American, and I often wonder what my life would have been like if I had not moved to America.  I feel fortunate to have grown up in America, and I feel fortunate to get free education until high school at least.

Do you go to a public school? Some of my friends I met from a local swimming club go to a private school. I have two younger brothers, so it is hard for all three of us to go to private school, because it is expensive. Do you have any brothers? I am not sure, but I think that all children are supposed to go to school in America. I believe there is a law about it. I should research more about it. I will tell you what I find next time.

My school is public school but it is one of the best one in town. Doing well in school is important to my family. What about yours? My family thinks a good education will help you be a good citizen and achieve my dreams. I think so too, but sometimes I don’t feel like studying. Do you like to study? What is education like in your country? I am now curious how similar or different your school is from mine. I hope to hear from you soon!

Best wishes,

Aurora

Dear _______,

How are you? History is my favorite subject too! We are so similar! I love that about us. I wish we could meet one day  and talk about history in person. The reason history is my favorite subject is because I can read about people who changed the world. I hope one day I am in history books! I wanted to finish telling you about the “I Am Malala” book. It has a lot to do with education and my culture.

I think you already know who Malala is. She is a Pakistani girl who stood up to the Taliban. In many countries, women aren’t allowed to do certain things. I admire Malala for being so brave. I don’t think I could have done it if I was her. I think in most cases, standing up for what you believe in can be scary.

I have cousins in Pakistan that are going to school, but they do not have to fight for their education. The situations are different within Pakistan. It depends on where in Pakistan you live. Most of my girl cousins go to school in the Karachi. When they finish school, they get married. Malala’s life is so much different from theirs. I also learned that Malala has a fund for girls education. It is called the Malala Fund. I asked my mom if we could donate some money to the fund, and she said yes! I think many organizations are helping more girls become educated. I want to become part of this movement. If more girls are educated, I believe the world would be completely different, and much better.

Do you have anything you want to change about the education system in your country? If so, what is it?

I look forward to your reply!

Best wishes,

Kiera

Dear __________,

How are you? It was really interesting to read your last letter. To answer your question about what we could do to empower ourselves, I think the best way to empower ourselves is through education. And I think ensuring everyone gets good education is the other half of the story.

I am a girl that lives in Palm Springs, California. I am Pakistani-American. One of the reasons my family moved to America was so my brothers and I could have a quality education. So Pakistan is always on my mind.

When I first learned about Malala Yousafzai, I was shocked. I have family in Pakistan, but they did not have the same experience as her. I also thought what if I was her? I don’t think I would have been as brave as she was.

Malala is now an advocate for girls education. She is my hero.  She spoke up for girls education in Pakistan.  Malala has a fund, called the Malala Fund. It helps girls all around the world get an education. So, actually this year for my birthday instead of asking for gifts.

I am going to ask my family and friends to donate money to the Malala Fund. https://www.malala.org/fundraise is where I will raise the fund. Please support it if you also think girls education is important! I believe small actions can make a difference if many people collaborate on the  cause. Do you have any causes you care a lot about? I look forward to your letter.

Warm regards,

Sebastian
